Voices and music of the community in Cremona and beyond
altrove è qui
Welcome to Altrove è qui, the website that guides you through the voices, sounds, and stories of migrant communities in Cremona and its surroundings.
This site was created to make the TRAS – Tracce Sonore: Archivio di Storie e Tradizioni Musicali archive accessible to a broader audience. TRAS is a living collection of audiovisual, sound, and photographic documentation dedicated to the music, stories, and traditions of both local and migrant communities in the Cremona area. TRAS brings together mainly materials from two research projects active since 2014: Migrant Music and From the Local to the Global
Migrant Music

A participatory research project documenting the intangible heritage of migrant communities in and around Cremona. Songs, dances, stories, religious festivals, languages, family memories — all contribute to a living archive built together with the people who bring "elsewhere" into the "here" every day. Thanks to the active involvement of numerous communities and cultural associations, the project collects documentation on a wide range of events: from weekly religious celebrations to major annual festivals, as well as music and dance performances open to the public. The project also developed the "Cultures in Dialogue" initiative, in collaboration with the Municipality of Cremona: citizens of foreign origin participate in ever-new forms of dialogue between their own cultures and the cultures inscribed in the objects preserved in the civic museums.
From the Local to the Global
A series of lecture-concerts born within the undergraduate and graduate Ethnomusicology courses — Ethnomusicology 1 and 2, Ethnomusicology of Musical Heritage and Musical Instruments of the World — held at the Department of Musicology and Cultural Heritage of the University of Pavia (in Cremona), this initiative has become a regular event not only for university students, but also for schools, local citizens, and enthusiasts who travel from outside the city to attend. The title reflects the aim of exploring both traditional Italian musical heritage and that of other countries. Thanks to the lecture-concert format, musicians not only perform but also share stories about their music — from learning processes to the "grammatical" rules that shape it.
